Call for Abstracts now open for the EQ Academy 2023 and EQ Early Career Researcher Meeting 2023 in Milan, Italy

EuroQol is pleased to announce that the 7th EuroQol Academy 2023 will be held on 7-9 March 2023 in Milan, Italy. The meeting can be attended in person or via an arranged digital platform.

Academy Theme 2023
The main objective of this meeting is to provide open sessions to EuroQol members and presenting author of accepted abstracts that relate to EQ Group’s ongoing research agenda. The theme of this year’s meeting is:

From cradle to grave: can we measure and value HRQoL consistently over the lifespan?

The EuroQol Research Foundation is in a unique position to explore possibilities for providing a suite of coherent, linked instruments which cover HRQoL ‘from the cradle to the grave’. The EuroQol Group has a portfolio of instruments that enable HRQoL to be measured and valued across the entire lifespan, with both EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-5L targeting at adults; both EQ-5D-Y-3L and EQ-5D-Y-5L targeting at children and adolescents 8 to 15 years and proxy versions extend this age range further down. EQ-TIPS targeting at infants and toddlers aged 0 to 3 years. Work on how well EQ-5D works in elderly is underway. This suite of instruments allows for the monitoring of health across the lifespan, as well as the calculation of QALYs in populations of all age groups.

However, challenges remain:

  • we are also considering questions raised by differences in the measurement of health before and after the change-over to a new instrument;
  • using age-appropriate instruments may improve measurements within an age group but produce discontinuities in the results across age groups;
  • whether the efforts we are making now to include children need to be matched by equally strong efforts to include elderly;
  • in both children and elderly, can we use proxy as a valid measure of HRQoL;
  • the elicitation and use of age-specific values etc.

Poster presentations
Guided poster sessions are scheduled for Wednesday 8th March. A moderator will lead viewers through each poster in turn, and the poster authors will be available for questions and clarifications.  Each poster will be discussed for approximately 5-7 minutes.  Research that aligns with the EQ Academy meeting programme and aims of the EQ Working groups will be reviewed and accepted for presentation. Research in innovative areas are also welcomed. EuroQol members and non-members are kindly invited to submit a poster abstract through the EuroQol Abstract Submission Portal at the latest on Monday 5th December 2022, 23.59 CET.

EuroQol is also delighted to announce that the 3rd EuroQol Early Career Researcher (ECR) Meeting 2023 will be held on Tuesday 7 March 2023 in Milan, Italy, as a one-day meeting ahead of the EuroQol Academy 2023 (ACA). The purpose of the ECR meeting is to provide structured opportunities for involvement, research and networking for ECRs (defined as students currently enrolled in a graduate studies program or individuals who are within five years of completing their last graduate degree) interested in EuroQol-related research. The ECR meeting will be an in-person event, there are no plans for remote participation.

Abstract submission
Research abstracts that align with the aims of the EQ Working Groups are welcomed, so are abstracts on EuroQol-related research in innovative areas. We kindly invite you to submit an abstract through the EuroQol Abstract Submission Portal at the latest on Monday 5th December 2022, 23.59 CET. The ECR organization committee will review all abstracts and make the decisions of acceptance.

*NOTE: ECRs are encouraged to submit their work to both the ECR and ACA meetings through the EuroQol Abstract Submission Portal. However, the review committee will prioritize selecting abstracts for the ECR meeting over the ACA meeting. If an abstract could not be accepted for the ECR programme, though received excellent review scores, the abstract will be considered for the ACA meeting.

Please take note of the submission deadline as this date is final and there will be no extensions provided. The portal will automatically prevent your entry after the deadline.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts for the EQ Academy 2023 and/or the ECR Meeting 2023 in Milan, Italy!
