EQ-5D (-Y) Valuation from adult and child perspectives.

Valuation from adult and child perspectives. Where does the empirical evidence leave us and how should we proceed?

Economic evaluations for pediatric interventions necessitate, measurement and valuation of children and adolescents’ health. EuroQol has developed the EQ-5D-Y (3L & 5L) instruments specifically for this population and the first value sets have been published. A key change in method for valuation of EQ-5D-Y compared to other EQ-5D instruments is the use of a child perspective: adults value EQ-5D-Y states considering a 10-year old child – rather than for themselves as was usual for other EQ-5D instruments. This change in perspective has been discussed and studied extensively. In this presentation, Stefan Lipman (Assistant Professor, Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management) will summarize the empirical work on the major influence different perspectives have on EQ-5D valuation and what this implies for future work on EQ-5D-Y valuation.
