EuroQol sponsors ISPOR Europe 2024 symposium on using HRQoL data from children and youth to strengthen HTA: What are the challenges? How can we improve current practice?

Attending ISPOR Europe 2024 in Barcelona this month? Interested in knowing more about the challenges currently posed by measuring and valuing health in children and youth with a focus on HTA? Come along to this symposium, sponsored by EuroQol, to hear a range of perspectives from HTA, industry, and academia, on this very topical subject. The symposium will take place on Monday 18 November, 11:45-12:45 CET at the Barcelona International Convention Centre, Room 116.

There is increased availability of instruments for measuring and valuing children and adolescents’ HRQoL, however recent reviews of paediatric technology assessments found limited use of child-specific measures to generate health state utilities, considerable variation in the methods used, and frequent use of adult instruments and health state utilities.

The aim of this symposium is to examine the opportunities for and barriers to using existing age-appropriate tools for HTA in children and adolescents, to identify methods gaps, and to explore ways that paediatric evidence-based decision-making can be strengthened.

The moderator for the session will be Prof. Nancy Devlin (University of Melbourne), who will introduce the symposium, followed by panellist presentations and a Q&A session. The panellists are:

  • Koonal Shah, PhD, Science Policy and Research Programme, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), England, UK
  • Saskia Knies, PhD, Zorginstituut Nederland, Netherlands
  • Fleur Chandler, MSc, health economist, Patient Advisory Board Lead, Duchenne UK
  • Wendy J Ungar, MSc, PhD, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute, Toronto, Canada
