Abraham Welie is a PhD Candidate in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University and an active member of the EuroQol Group. Since 2020, he has been a key contributor to EQ-5D research, leading the first EQ-5D-5L valuation study in Africa to develop Ethiopia’s national value set using the EQ-PVT protocol. His work includes the cultural adaptation, translation, and validation of the EQ-5D instruments (adult and youth versions) into Amharic and Tigrinya, as well as multiple psychometric and measurement property studies across diverse populations. Before pursuing his PhD, he served as a Lecturer in Pharmacoepidemiology and Social Pharmacy and led the corresponding research team at Mekelle University in Ethiopia. His research focuses on the methodology and application of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in research and clinical practice, with particular emphasis on measurement properties, cost-effectiveness, cost–utility analysis, economic modeling, health economics, and health technology assessment.
